About Phoenix University of Theology

A Classic Ecclesiastical University System.

Phoenix University of Theology is a classic Ecclesiastical University.  All degree programs are concentrated in distinct areas of Christian ministry and theology.

The University sets the standards for degree programs, certifies completion and awards degrees. Learning is accomplished through independent learning contracts.

The University awards credit for lifelong learning through the trade mark Ministry Assessment Portfolio Process Assessment and Certification program developed by Dr. Richard Drake, Provost and founder of  the University. Degree programs are tailored to individual ministry calling and completed through distance learning and the independent learning contract.

Over 100 Bible Colleges, Seminaries, and non degree granting teaching ministries that  use curriculum certified for credit by the Curriculum Certification Commission of the Accrediting Association for Theological Studies provide instruction recognized for credit by the University.

In addition to the Seminary, College and Institute, the University system includes accredited world class teaching alliances that provide instruction in various ministry concentrations that define majors and degree distinctions.

The University is chartered internationally through the ecclesiastical authority of Spiritual Concepts International Church of the Firstborn which was incorporated in the State of Arkansas in 1978. The Phoenix University of Theology system was established in Phoenix, Arizona in June of 2001. The states of Arkansas, Arizona, Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming recognize the sovereignty and ecclesiastical authority of the church to charter and accredit its own schools for the purpose of training adherents to the Christian faith.

Spiritual Concepts International Church of the Firstborn is constitutionally exempt from taxation and received a tax exempt determination letter in 1980 pursuant to section to section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the University are tax deductible.

Our first school was chartered in 1978 as a Bible Correspondence School. The School transitioned into a distance learning Seminary in 1982 and formed an "Open University" system in 1990.  Spiritual Concepts International Seminary, The Institute for Christian Maturity and College of the Bible formed the initial system that now includes over 100 schools and  teaching ministries world wide.

Our goal is to validate the independent and lifelong learning experience of ministers and Church leaders and provide an effective and affordable distance learning system to help them reach their full potential in life and ministry that culminates in the completion of a degree program.

Our Beliefs

Phoenix University of Theology has a Kingdom world view and a global call to multiply ministry leaders to help complete the Great Commission. We focus on Christ-centered leadership development and do not prioritize particular church doctrines. Our statement of beliefs reflects our call to help build and unify the Body of Christ worldwide:

1.      We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

2.      We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3.      We believe in the deity and humanity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His present rule as Head of the Church, and in His personal return in power and glory.

4.      We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

5.      We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life and to do the work of the ministry.

6.      We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation.

7.      We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, with equality across racial, gender, and class differences.
